New Teachers Welcome Luncheon

The A+ Coalition and its partners welcome new Natchitoches Parish teachers at a luncheon in their honor every August just prior to the beginning of school. The inaugural event in 2018 brought team players together such as the Natchitoches Community Alliance, the Natchitoches Parish School Board, the College of Education at Northwestern State University, the City of Natchitoches and the Chamber of Commerce to thank these individuals for choosing Natchitoches Parish, welcome them to our community, and offer our support as they begin the school year. The Coalition hopes to build on this event every year in an effort to attract and retain great teachers.

Elite Scholarship Banquet

In an effort to promote and incentivize student performance, high school seniors across the Parish who meet certain academic criteria are recognized at the annual Elite Scholarship Banquet, which is hosted by the A+ Coalition and its partners each May.

Students from Natchitoches Central, St. Mary’s, Lakeview and Louisiana School for Math, Science & the Arts (LSMSA) are selected by school counselors based on their ACT scores, GPA and dual enrollment credits. LSMSA students have the added requirement of being a Natchitoches native resident. A points scale is used to select the highest achieving students, with 2 points given for an ACT score at or above a 24, 1 point given for a GPA of 3.5 or higher, and 1 point given for 12 or more hours of dual enrollment. All students with at least 3 points are invited to attend the banquet along with two parents or guests.

In its first year, 84 seniors received certificates from their principals, and eight lucky students went home with scholarships to continue their education after graduation. This event exemplifies the mission of the A+ Coalition: to bring our community together to reward academic excellence and advance education in Natchitoches Parish.
